workshops

Through the Kootenay Clean Energy Transition, the Community Energy Association (CEA) is working with industry experts to deliver local subsidized training on home energy retrofits that improve home comfort and provide long term savings for homeowners.

Topics will include house-as-a-system, building envelope, insulation and air sealing, heat pumps and mechanical systems, and other future-friendly technologies such as solar photovoltaic (PV) and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

home energy retrofits

Home energy retrofits enhance the building’s energy efficiency while providing a healthier and more comfortable home. Retrofits can involve improving the building envelope, replacing mechanical systems, and installing future friendly technologies.

Home energy retrofit introduction

building envelope

Improvements to the building envelope include enhancing the building’s air tightness, adding insulation, and upgrading windows and doors.

mechanical systems

Updating a home’s mechanical systems includes replacing the space heating and cooling systems, water heating systems, and ventilation systems with an energy efficient technology like a heat pump.

future friendly technology

Integrating future friendly technologies into the home involves installing a photovoltaic (PV) system or an electric vehicle (EV) charger to reduce homeowner energy costs.

about KCET

The Kootenay Clean Energy Transition (KCET) is a multi-year project that will build awareness and workforce capacity for a low carbon and clean energy transition in the Kootenays.

The initiative’s focus is on reducing GHG emissions by targeting the two highest emitting sectors - the built environment (heating & cooling of buildings) and transportation and address key barriers to low carbon technology adoption, including lack of knowledge, increased cost and local access to equipment and installers.
